FMEA Failure Mode and Effect Analysis

FMEA assists in the prevention of concerns through a multi-disciplined structured approach to the analysis of potential failure modes.
The teamwork approach is emphasized throughout the course and participants are expected to participate in team work on specific FMEA projects.

Target group

Participants should have a general appreciation of quality methods
The course is designed to cover the fundamentals of the FMEA technique and how to manage it. It is appropriate to those people new to FMEA as well as those experienced practitioners who need to update their FMEA and related skills with the latest information. The course is also intended for those who are required to run FMEA teams.

Certification

At the end of this training there is a small test. When you pass this test, you receiver a certificate of participation.

Content of this training

At the end of this training participants will be able to:

  • appreciate the role of FMEA in quality planning and that quality planning is the cornerstone of defect prevention and continuing improvement
  • appreciate the links (inputs and outputs between FMEA and other quality system elements
  • use related techniques such as function trees and fault tree analysis to improve the effectiveness of FMEA
  • distinguish between system, design process and machinery FMEAs
  • perform a system FMEA
  • perform a design FMEA
  • perform a process FMEA
  • recognize and overcome the pitfalls sometimes experienced in applying FMEA
  • transform a generic process FMEA to a product related process FMEA
  • appreciate the responsibility for, and approaches to, initiating, updating and acting upon FMEAs, the identification of special characteristics and general management of the FMEA system
  • appreciate the role of computer- based FMEAs

  • 4th and 5th december 2018
  • Participants: Maximum 14 participants
  • Trainer: Robert Thonissen, autor of “FMEA with Robustness Linkages” and “FMEA Express”. He was responsible for the FMEA procedure and standardisation of FMEA at Ford Motor Company
